Before beginning to train you dog, there still more things to consider. Older dogs are not the same as puppies. Be aware that some dogs may have some health issues. Also, you should remember the physical abilities of an older dog compared to the young ones.

Make sure your dog is healthy. Because of old age, some dogs might have some health problems. They could also be overweight and this will affect your training. It is best to consult a veterinarian if you have some doubts. Some of these older canines may not be able to hear as well as they once could and their joints may be stiff. You are not training a puppy so you don’t expect he will have perfect senses. Some dogs may experience some pain when you teach them to jump or roll over. If your companion starts ignoring the commands, take note of how he is looking physically. It may be too painful to jump or roll over that’s why he is not doing it.

Another dilemma you might encounter is your dog’s hearing ability. Older dogs have poorer hearing abilities and might affect the quality of the training. Using certain signals may help if you run into this problem. By doing this, even if his hearing is going he will still be able to understand. No question, understanding is required to train a dog with this problem.

Dogs with some age do not have the gusto that a pup does. Some may not be able to do things physically that they once could. Do not forget that there are limits to what an older canine is capable of.
