So, when you think of training a puppy to be obedient you would naturally think to look for books that would provide you with the instructions you need. Books that teach you how to train your puppy are fine, but have you ever thought about using dog obedience videos? Let us take a look at both learning from a video and from a book.

Let us begin with dog obedience books. Books can be very explicit in giving instructions. Also, books can cover a lot of information in one place. Books can be made to be very specific or very general. In other words, they can provide information and instructions about dogs in general or information on a certain breed of dog. It is certainly possible to learn from books.

Now let us discuss dog obedience videos. Videos can also be very explicit in giving instructions. In fact, instructions given on a video can be more explicit as you can actually see how to perform the steps given in the video. There is less opportunity for misunderstanding the instructions given when you actually see them performed. Due to the fact that you are seeing the steps the learning is more likely to be remembered. Videos can also be made to be more specific or more general, depending on the task at hand. The major disadvantage to videos is that you can only get so much information to fit onto one video.

Dog obedience books or dog obedience videos? Which is right for you? It depends upon your personality and the information you are seeking. If you are an avid reader then books may be what you prefer. If, however, reading is not your cup of tea then you might be better off purchasing the training videos. The catch is this; the information you are seeking may be better understood if you literally see the steps involved. Or you might only be able to find the information you are seeking in either book or video, but not both.
